Vice Captain: Eliza Probert

May 2025 – Current

“I am Eliza and I am the Vice-Captain of Dunedin swim team. I was Dunedin’s youngest member joining the club at seven years old and have swum with Dunedin for over half my life.

The things I enjoy most about the club are the support I get from everybody, the annual swim camps (I am about to go on my fourth) and the friends I have made for life. The coaches give us tough training sets but they are super kind and always inspire me to be my absolute best. My favourite events to compete in are 100m butterfly, 200m IM and 200m backstroke.

I think I have stayed at Dunedin so long because of the quality of coaching and due to the inclusive and welcoming environment. My top five moments in my many years at Dunedin are:

Watching when John Kirby thought he could beat Maya in a race in Cyprus;

When I managed to get back to my PB pace after a serious injury and months out of the water, thanks to the support of my brilliant and hugely supportive coaches (the Johns);

Competing at galas, especially those where I get a PB and/or a medal;

My first swimmer of the month award and my first ever Dunedin award which was from Coach Nick for best swim effort not long after I joined; and

Last, but definitely not least, meeting my forever friend Annika Saran.

I hope to swim with Dunedin for many more years to come.  I love it!!”
