Club Captain : Milly Scannell

Aug24 – Current

“My name is Milly and I’m the club captain at Dunedin Swim Team. I joined the club around the middle of 2022 as someone who wasn’t the sportiest nor had ever done competitive swimming before, but I was made to feel very welcome by my teammates and found myself improving quickly due to the support of my fantastic coaches. Whether it being thrown in at the deep end on my first Sunday training session by having to do a 400m freestyle time trial or struggling through the tough sets, Dunedin constantly pushes me to limits I never thought possible prior to joining the club. I was lucky enough to attend the 2024 Tenerife swim camp in the summer which was an unforgettable experience, some of my favourite moments include the day we spent at the waterpark, the flume and ice bath, Matilda’s dryland sessions, exploring Tenerife with my friends and the hotel buffet selection (I liked the actual swimming too, of course). My favourite strokes are butterfly and freestyle and I enjoy the occasional IM too. I find myself looking forward to training as it allows me to be challenged and I get to train alongside my friends whom I share many memories with through swimming. And one last thing, even if John might not agree with me, my favourite post-swim snack is ice cream. Nothing beats ice cream after swimming!”
