The superb swim saw Kenneth win gold in the event.

The afternoon session saw Kenneth return to the pool to compete in the 200m IM.  Again Kenneth went from the start and a strong BS leg saw Kenneth swim to an impressive 23 second PB to bring him home in 6th place.

Ren 96

The weekend of 25th and 26th April saw the young Dunedin swimmers head through to Renfrew to compete at the Ren 96 Graded meet at Johnstone pool.  The weekend started on a high with Kaliah Barker setting the ball rolling in the first event posting a three second PB and gaining 6th position in the 10/u age group.  Kaliah then pick herself up from the morning swim to post yet another PB in the 100 IM in the afternoon session.  Sister Emily Barker continued the success with a 5 second PB the 100BF in the morning and folloed on with a 1second PB in the 200 IM in the afternoon.  Personal best for Emily continued on the Sunday with 2 more PB’s in the 200 BC (4sec) and 400 IM (6 Sec) which saw Emily claim gold in the IM in the 11/12 age group.

With confidence high within the team the personal bests just kept coming.  With Cara Pullar claiming 4 new PB’s in the 100 IM (1sec), 100 BS, 50 FC (3 Sec) and 50 BS (1sec) with the latter claiming her a bronze medal in the 11/12 age group.  Hannah Gallacher also saw her PB crash in the 50m BC (1sec) while sister Megan lowered her times in both the 50 FC(1sec) and 50 BC (1sec).  Katie Gullane-Smillie also lowered her time in the 50 FC by 1 second.    Caitlin Hamilton continued the success of the girls by swimming a huge PB in the 200 BF taking 30 seconds off her previous best time, claiming a too fast certificate along the way.  The weekend was rounded off with the only male competitor of the weekend Kenneth Drummond smashing his PB in the 200 FC by 5 seconds in a hard fought swim.

Overall it was a great weekend of swimming and I am sure the parents enjoyed the weekend as much as the swimmers did.

Falkirk Otters

Saturday 25th April saw Dunedin swimmer Caitlin Hamilton compete at the Falkirk Otters meet at Larkhall pool.  The day started with Caitlin competing in her less favoured events of 50 BF and 50 BC.  The BF saw Caitlin swim from the second last heat to claim 4th place in a close contest.  The BC followed a familiar patter with Caitlin again finishing in 4th place taking ½ second off her PB in the process.  With theses events out the way Caitlin focused on her stronger events of BS and FC. In the BS Caitlin led from the front and eventually winning by over 1 second while chipping another ½ second off her PB.  The FC followed on from the BS with Caitlin again leading from the front and claiming the win by a similar margin and saw Caitlin shave 0.3 off of her PB claiming a meet record of 30.06 on the way.  The day was rounded off for Caitlin when she picked up the top girl award for the 11 year old girls.

The 1 1year old age group also saw Hannah Gallacher produce brilliant PB’s in the 50 FC, 50 BS and a huge PB of 11 seconds in the 100IM.  The afternoon brought another massive PB from Emily Barker in the 200 FC taking off 10 seconds and breaking the 3 minute barrier for the first time.

The 12 year old age groups saw Cara Pullar produce a superb PB in the 100 IM of 9 seconds and also taking 2 seconds off her 50 BS time.   Alex Forsyth rounded up the weekend in the 12 year old boys with yet another brilliant round of swims taking 14 seconds off of his 200 FC time and also 4 seconds off his 50 FC and 3 seconds off his 50 BC
