Dunedin Swim Team, recipients of a £4,000 sponsorship deal from Jabil Circuit (Livingston) and a £500 SPORTSMATCH award from sportscotland are delighted to offer a 'Learn to Swim' programme that will run on Tuesday evenings at Dreghorn Barracks, Edinburgh, 5pm - 7pm and Thursday evenings at the Royal Blind School, Edinburgh, 6pm - 8pm. The SPORTSMATCH funding received will be used to purchase essential swim training equipment for the 'Learn to Swim' programme. The Jabil Circuit sponsorship will be used to help secure much needed pool time for the performance swimmers and the 'Learn to Swim' programme. A full training schedule is crucial for the performance swimmers if they are to achieve their goal of representing their country in future Olympic, Commonwealth and European events. Head Swim Teacher Jan Barker (right), Swim Teacher Gemma Baird (left) and Chris Bell are delighted with the SPORTSMATCH award and are very positive about the future benefits of providing such a programme that teaches a life-saving skill. Between them they managed 7 PBs from 10 swims with Emily picking up a 4th place medal in the 10/under 50m Butterfly in a time of 00:53.99 knocking 24.65s off her entry time. Emily also knocked 18.88s off her 100m Individual Medley entry time finishing 7th in a time of 01:47.12. Team mate Kenneth Drummond competing in the Boys 10/under 100m Individual Medley also finished 7th with a time of 01:44.01 which was 3.44s better than his entry time. Reminder that training on Sunday 7th October is at RCP, 1-3pm. 06-Oct-07: Bonus Ball winner for Saturday 6th October was No. 10, Peter McDonagh 04-Oct-07: Those swimmers not competing at Crawley this weekend are expected to train at Prestonpans on Friday 5th October from 5 - 6:30pm, Saturday at Next Generation, 6:30 - 9:00am and Sunday at RCP 1:00 - 3:00pm. Next week, we're back to Dreghorn on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 5:00 - 7pm and Prestonpans Wednesday 4:30 - 6:30pm. If anybody wants to take up the offer of training at East Kilbride on Sunday morning the arrangement is that they would go to Hamilton Baths at 5am and swim a length (contributing towards achieving the record for the most people to swim a length) then train at East Kilbride from 6 - 8 am - the Eat Kilbride coach, Andy Figgins, - will be happy to see anybody who chooses to take up this offer. 04-Oct-07: Reminder that this Saturday 6th October is a bag packing fund raiser at Sainsbury's Superstore (Meadowbank) from 10am - 6pm. If you would like an advanced copy, please drop John Kirby an E-mail to johnenkirby@tiscali.co.uk 15-Sep-07: Bonus Ball winner for Saturday 15th September was No. 24, Dunedin Swim Team 12-Sep-07: Inaugural Dunedin Challenge Meet - there were some unbelievable swims over the weekend given this was the start of the 2007-08 swim season. From 178 swims, there were 131 lifetime personal bests (74% success rate), 24 Gold, 25 Silver, 14 Bronze plus an additional 8 Bronze in the Cannonball Freestyle Relay. There were also 163 short course club records set over the 2-days. 13yr old Zach Courtney (currently swimming unattached) has regained his East District Short Course records in the 50m and 100m Backstroke with times of 00:30.25 and 01:04.92 respectively. 13yr old Lisa Main set a new East District record in the 50m Backstroke with a time of 00:30.82, a 1sec improvement on her previous best. 16yr old Jennifer Somerville set a new Short Course British record in the 200m Freestyle (S7) Disability category with a time of 03:21.33 breaking the previous record by 6.66sec which has stood since January '98. 14yr old Lucy Ellis broke numerous Scottish Age Group, Scottish Junior, East District and East District Junior records over the 2-days in the 50m, 100m and 200m Freestyle and 50m and 100m Butterfly.

If you don't know the PBs password, see John Kirby. 09-Sep-07: Inaugural Dunedin Challenge Meet - a massive thank you to all that helped support the gala both on Saturday and Sunday but also those that supported in the run up to the 2-day event. The meet ran smoothly from start to finish so give yourselves a huge pat on the back. Feedback from the clubs that attended has been very positive. All commented on how smooth the gala ran, the awards and trophies, the atmosphere created but most of all how Dunedin Swim Team (swimmers and parents) pulled together to support each other. The coaches like the 50m, 100m and 200m format and loved the Cannonball Relay on Saturday afternoon. All at Dunedin Swim Team would like to take this opportunity to thank the STO's - without you we would not be able to proceed with the meet; to Ross Ainslie for agreeing to referee the 2-day meet; to Ralph Payne & Tony Dane for operating the AOE and a big thanks to Peter Lee for the countless hours he has spent on the meet management pulling together the gala programme, managing the entries / withdrawals and producing start sheets and results - he's that efficient, the results can be found on the Swim Scotland web-site already, just hours after the meet finished. 08-Sep-07: Bonus Ball winner for Saturday 8th September was No. 31, Ann Duncan 01-Sep-07: Bonus Ball winner for Saturday 1st September was No. 8, Bill Hume August '07 25-Aug-07: Bonus Ball winner for Saturday 25th August was No. 8, Bill Hume 19-Aug-07: Rebecca Lee will be representing GB at the INAS-FID 2007 World Swimming Championships in Ghent, Belgium from 19th - 26th August '07. With just 5 swimmers over the two days, they achieved between them 2 Gold, 6 Silver, 1 Bronze, one 4th place, two 5th place, two 6th place, 23 PBs from 27 swims (including finals). 15yr old Yusuke Onishi picked up Silver in the 50m Freestyle (00:27.97), Bronze in the 100m Backstroke (01:15.78), 4th in the 50m Butterfly (00:34.40), Silver in the 50m Backstroke (00:34.02), and Gold in the 100m Freestyle (01:00.46). 15yr old Vicky McFarlane picked up 6th in the 50m Breaststroke (00:41.11), Silver in the 100m Backstroke (01:20.32) and Gold in the 100m Breaststroke (01:27.01). 14yr old Nicola Thorburn picked up Silvers in both the 50m Freestyle (00:30.65) and 100m Freestyle (01:05.64). 17yr old Kirsty Thompson picked up 5th in the 50m Breaststroke (00:40.94), Silver in the 100m Butterfly (01:19.83), 5th in the 50m Butterfly and 6th in the 100m Freestyle (01:09.04). Team mate Laura Somerville knocked 3 seconds off her 50m Backstroke entry time with a time of 00:47.05 and 7 seconds off her 50m Butterfly time (00:51.38).

Lucy will be competing in the European Youth Olympic Festival in Belgrade, Serbia from 21st - 28th July and Robyn will be competing in the European Junior Championships in Antwerp, Belgium from 18th - 22nd. Both swimmers have prepared well and have shown total commitment in training and know this is a platform in which to shine. Lucy's training included a 4-day visit with Coach Rob Greenwood at Gallica and Robyn has spent a month away from home travelling abroad and training/competing in several pools. Lucy is looking forward to racing on the 23rd (4 x 100m F/C Relay); 24th (4 x 200m F/C Relay) and 26th (Individual 200m F/C). Robyn will be competing in the 400m IM, 400m and 800m Freestyle events. Being the largest event of its kind in Europe with over 2,000 elite athletes taking part, this exciting multi-sport festival will be an excellent opportunity for Lucy to gain invaluable experience competing in an Olympic event. Lucy is a fantastic age group swimmer and one of Scotland and GB’s best prospects for the future. Lucy returned home from the recent Scottish National Open Long Course Championships held at Tollcross (Glasgow) last week with 6 Gold medals, 4 more Junior Championship titles to add to the 5 short course titles she achieved earlier this year, 1 Scottish National record and 1 East District record.
The individual Gold medals were achieved in the 100m Freestyle, 200m Freestyle, 100m Butterfly and 50m Freestyle which was a new 14yr old Scottish National and East District Age Group record in a time of 00:27.18. Lucy’ other Gold medals came in the 4 x 50m Medley Relay and 4 x 50m Freestyle Relay. The Medley Relay made up of Lisa Main, Kirsty Paterson, Catriona Laird and Lucy Ellis set a new East District Age Group record of 02:08.55 for the 13/14yrs age group and a new East District Junior record. The same four swimmers made up the Freestyle Relay team finishing first in a time of 01:55.92. 07-Jul-07: Training as normal at Dreghorn Barracks next week. June '07 30-June-07: Bonus Ball winner for Saturday 30th June was No. 48, Dunedin Swim Team 25-June-07: The Executive, General Committee, coaching staff and swimmers involved in Dunedin Swim Team would like to wish Claire Burberry and family all the best for the future. Claire has decided to quit swimming for the time being to concentrate on her education. Claire will be sorely missed by everyone - all the very best with your studies - keep in touch. 24-June-07: Catriona Laird took part in the InCAS Distance Meet held at FIPRE (Glenrothes) on Sunday 24th June. Catriona managed PBs in all three swims entered, Freestyle 200m (02:22.57) & 400m (05:00.58) plus 400m IM (05:32.41).
